A LIFE ON THE LAND by Ian Weir

Our new publication, A Life on the Land, a boy's upbringing in rural Argyll - 'Up the Airy Mountain' by Ian Weir.  108 pages, A5 size.

In his introduction, Dr Iain McNicol writes:  'Appin Historical Society is delighted to be involved in publishing this collection of Ian Weir's childhood memories, many of which have appeared in the Scots' Magazine. Twenty-one of the stories have been published previously and we have added five 'new' stories together with some old photographs of Ian's relating to the people and places in his childhood.  Ian's pen beautifully and amusingly brings to life a bygone time when people and places mattered more than pin numbers and postcodes.  The cumulative effect is a wonderful social history fashioned by a master story teller. Storytellers use a certain licence and characters can be recognised but all are created     with a deep affection for the lands of Appin and its people.  The Society is grateful to Ian for allowing us to be involved in this project which brings a deeper understanding of our social past to a wider audience.'
