Indoor meetings are held on the third Saturday of the month at Port Appin Hall at 2.30pm, unless otherwise notified below, from September to May; field trips will be on the first Saturday of the month as listed.  All events will be advertised at Port Appin Community        Co-operative and in the Oban Times; occasionally we may have to cancel meetings or change dates or times at short notice - if you are travelling some distance to attend, you are advised to telephone 01631 730309 to check details before setting out or click on this page on our website.

 

PROGRAMME 2011-12:

20 August 2011 - APPIN AGRICULTURAL SHOW.  This year our theme will be 'A History of Appin in 100? Objects' (following the excellent BBC Radio 4 programme).  We will need plenty of help so if you can spare an hour or more during the day to help on the stand, please let the Chairman know.  Publications, including the updated Appin and District Visitor Guide,  will be on sale. 

17 September 2011 - The Landscape of Ardnamurchan: Cara Jones - part of the Ask the Experts lecture series for SAM. As part of Scottish Archaeology Month, National Museums Scotland and National Trust for Scotland have offered heritage groups in Scotland the chance to commission an expert talk from some of the leading archaeologists in Scotland! Co-ordinated by Archaeology Scotland for Scottish Archaeology Month. 19 November 2011 - Then and Now: General Roy's Maps of the early 1750s compared with Appin today: Dr. Euan MacKie.

 

NEXT MEETING:

10 December 2011 - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING followed by Walking through Time -teaching children local history through outdoor experiences: Sam Harrison, Open Ground. Sam was involved in taking children from Strath of Appin Primary School and home-educated children in the Appin area out into the surrounding countryside to learn history in an adventurous way.  At the end of their course, the children made a short film, which will be shown at the meeting.    Refreshments will be provided (not the usual tea and biscuits!). Port Appin Hall, 7.30pm.  PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE SECOND SATURDAY IN DECEMBER.
